Avian & Exotic Animal Care’s “Wild” In-Service Training

Andersen Sterilizers News  | FEBRUARY 5, 2020

Andersen Sterilizers reps took a walk on the wild side during an in-service training at Raleigh, NC-based Avian and Exotic Animal Care Veterinary Hospital. The practice does not treat cats or dogs but pretty much everything else – from fish to zoo animal species.

Before the training, Dr. Salina Locke, a vet tech and pre-vet student, worked with a red shouldered hawk that had been hit by a car. It was discovered on the ground, covered in dirt. Today, its second day at the practice, it opened both eyes for the first time and rated “quietly alert” on the twice daily wellness roster. Despite its injuries, the hawk was fiercely beautiful and now has a chance at survival thanks to Dr. Locke and the rest of the team at Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

Dr. Dan Johnson, or “Dr. Dan,” the head veterinarian on staff, is Board Certified in Exotic Companion Mammal Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) and is past president of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV).

Dr. Dan publishes and lectures nationally about avian and exotic animal medicine. In fact, that’s where Andersen Products reps met him – at a lecture on intubation at VMX (Veterinary Meeting & Expo) in Orlando, FL earlier this month.

The practice recently invested in more endoscopy equipment and, as Dr. Dan explained to his staff, “The Anprolene sterilizer is significantly safer for a $10,000 scope than an autoclave. At just $23 per cycle,” Dr. Dan added. “There’s plenty we can throw in there. We expect to run one or two cycles a week.”

Avian & Exotic Animal Care is no different from thousands of other clinics around the world that benefit from our Anprolene sterilizers because they complement the autoclave. Andersen’s tabletop sterilizers are affordable, versatile, easy to use, and low temperature. Most importantly, Andersen sterilizers preserve and protect your instruments, as well as extend the life of your most delicate instruments, electronics, drills, fiber optics, cameras, plastics and rubber items.

Welcome to the Andersen family Dr. Dan!

Oh – and follow them on Facebook for some pretty awesome glimpses into exactly how “exotic” their clientele gets.
