GA’s first air test shows toxic gas above acceptable level

Atlanta Journal-Constitution — The state’s first air test for a carcinogenic gas used by several industrial facilities across Georgia showed it at a level well above what is deemed acceptable by federal regulators.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency, which analyzed the sample, said in a statement that the test result is a preliminary estimate. The agency said, “The sample collected at the South DeKalb monitoring site provides a measurable level of ethylene oxide that cannot clearly be linked to a particular source.” MORE…

Health department’s air testing for ethylene oxide in Waukegan, Gurnee shows highest results in residential area near Medline

Chicago Tribune — The final results are in from ambient air monitoring conducted earlier this summer around two Lake County facilities that use ethylene oxide. Conclusions can’t be drawn from any one day of air sampling, Lake County Health Department spokeswoman Hannah Goering said, adding that a full analysis will take into consideration wind speed and direction as well as other variables.
